Meet Shania “Just Shania” Banton
Shania Banton is a Queens-born, Jamaican-American Director, Writer, and Producer with over eleven years of experience creating bold, emotionally charged stories across film, television, digital, and commercial media. Her breakout series WAVES—featured in Spike Lee’s Da Republic of Brooklyn—became the #1 show on KweliTV and later premiered on Amazon Prime.
Through her company, Just Shania Productions, she’s directed and produced acclaimed projects like 145-Days (REVOLT TV), SWITCH (Amazon Prime), I Wear Black (HBO Pitch finalist), and campaigns for NYDH CANS NY. Shania’s distinct storytelling blends cinematic realism with cultural depth, exploring themes of identity, healing, and generational legacy.
As a genre director, she is developing her debut feature film Adult Children—a psychological thriller that placed #10 of 87 films in the DCP Horror Film Competition.
Beyond filmmaking, she is the founder of OnSet Talk, a resource-based community that equips independent filmmakers with education, tools, and services to expand their creative careers, and The Creative Bridge, where she helps corporations and creatives build structured systems that bridge storytelling and strategy.
